Bike Service Checklist: What to Ask a Shop

Before bike service, record what changed, when it happens, recent impacts or repairs, and any safety concern. Bring the relevant key, charger, or accessories only when the shop requests them.

Before the appointment

Write down sounds, slipping, rubbing, looseness, warning codes, or pressure loss.
Note the gear, speed, terrain, weather, and load when the symptom appears.
Share recent part replacements, crashes, transport damage, or home adjustments.
Remove valuables and unnecessary bags unless they are part of the problem.
Do not wash away evidence of a leak immediately before inspection.

Agree on the scope

Ask what the initial inspection covers, how additional work will be authorized, which parts may need replacement, and when the mechanic will contact you. For an e-bike, confirm the shop supports the electrical system.

At collection

Ask what was found, what was changed, whether any issue remains, and what follow-up interval applies. Test basic operation in a safe area before a long ride. Add the work to your maintenance schedule.
