An e-bike needs the same pre-ride checks as any bicycle, plus attention to its battery, motor system, display, wiring, and manufacturer updates. Check tires and brakes every ride, inspect the drivetrain weekly, and follow the maker’s exact electrical and service schedule.
Before every ride
Confirm both brakes work firmly, tires are sound, wheels are secure, controls move normally, and the battery is correctly latched. Check that visible cables and connectors are not loose, crushed, or damaged.
Weekly for regular use
Wipe the bike clean, inspect the higher-wear drivetrain, review brake pad condition, and check that lights and the display work. Keep water and aggressive cleaners away from electrical interfaces.
Monthly
Measure chain wear, inspect tire sidewalls, check spoke condition, review battery and charger surfaces, and investigate error messages through official documentation or an authorized service provider.
Follow maker intervals
Motor, firmware, battery, belt, hub, suspension, and brake requirements vary. Never open a battery pack or improvise electrical repairs. A battery that is swollen, cracked, unusually hot, leaking, hissing, or giving off an unusual odor must be isolated from use and handled according to manufacturer and local emergency guidance.
